Running in wind and snow

Today I took part in the Stige Ø Off Road run. We ran 10 kilometres around the Stige island north of Odense. We ran through the narrow paths over the mounds on the island. It snowed yesterday and in addition very strong wind had been blowing from the early morning. Terrible weather for being outside.

On the start there were approximately 60 competitors. We ran 3 rounds, 10 kilemetres in total. The running track was still up and down. At first we ran up the highest hill, 30 metres above the sea level and then down to the level of the sea to the forest.

There were some suprises for us like crawling under the net or jumping over the ditch. My time was 65 minutes. The winner had a time around 40 minutes. Wind was so strong that it dropped us off our bikes on the way home.

Nest boxes in the woods

This weekend I helped with hanging of nest boxes in the woods around the University. We placed first 30 of 100 boxes.
It is the part of the scientific project. We will monitor the breeding of the Blue Tit from building of the nest through the egg-laying to the flying out of the nest. Blue Tit lays eggs in the middle of April. So probably I will send here some photos of eggs in a nest box :o).

Danish Pålægschokolade

Pålægschokolade is a thin slice of chocolate which you can put on your toast bread and it is very popular here in Denmark. You can buy it as a milk chocolate or a dark chocolate and is more popular than chocolate spreads like Nutela.

Very fast fast food stand

I have strolled through the centre of Odense few days ago. Bells were ringing. It was 18 o´clock. Shops were being closed. And the hotdog stand behind me was being closed too. Suddenly the hotdog stand started his engine, switched lights on and leaved the pedestrian zone in the direction to the main street. I ran after him to be able to take a photo of the moving fast food with a steering wheel for you.

The table lamp nation

Danes are a table lamp nation. They don´t have the central light in the living room in most houses. Instead of it they have a lot of table lamps and floor lamps around the room or there is a light low over the dining table.
In Danish houses there are central lights mostly in bedrooms and in the kitchen. I think that Danes like this semi-darkness created by these small lamps.

Dinner party for 150 people

Danes love to eat. I was on couple of events where the main part of the evening was the dinner. It doesn't matter if the dinner is for 10 or for 150 people.

Last weekend I helped with organization of the ultimate frisbee tournament. I spent most of the time in the kitchen. We peeled potatoes, mixed dough and so on. There were 20 other helpers with me. We prepared the Saturday dinner for 150 participants of the tournament.
Dinner was in buffet-style. On the table there was everything what we had prepared. And after one hour everything was eaten :o).

Shared toilets

There are shared toilets for men and women in public buildings in Denmark. How it works? There is more toilets accessible from hall. Inside there is one toilet bowl and the sink. This room is so big that it can be used by handicapped persons too.

Other way is that there is a separate room with sinks. The same as we know in Czech Republic. Men as well as woman can go inside. And there are cabins with toilet bowls. Everything is the same but accessible to both genders.
